Fresh water to flow in Gate Street
Thames Water are replacing ageing water main's
Replacing London’s Victorian water mains is a massive undertaking that is vital for London's health and wellbeing - now it's Holborn's turn for some badly needed pipework.
Thames Water are replacing ageing water mains in the Lincoln’s Inn Fields area and on 26th August 2008 will start work in Gate Street.
Once Gate Street is complete the scene of activity will move to New Turnstile and then Little Turnstile. The work involves a complete overhaul of the area supply. This will greatly reduce leakage and burst pipes, as well as lessening the need for future repairs and road works.
The old cast iron pipes will be replaced with new plastic ones in three phases (see below).
• New water mains installation.
• Customer Service Transfers on to the new network.
• The abandonment of the old water network and any associated remedial works
During each phase of these works there may be
• road closures
• parking bay suspensions
• an interruption to your water supply
Customers will be warned of supply disruptions in advance. All local businesses in the affected area have been contacted.
