London's worst jam?

You can't be in Holborn long without noticing the almost permanent queue of traffic negotiating the junction of Procter Street and High Holborn.

You can't be in Holborn long without noticing the almost permanent queue of traffic negotiating the junction of Procter Street and High Holborn.

It's almost a permanent feature of the local scene, a fact that is driving many of London's taxi and commercial drivers to distraction. The London Taxi Drivers Association claim that the new light phasing, introduced to ensure an 'all-stop' period when pedestrians can cross the entire junction in safety, has turned a bottleneck into a log-jam. They estimate that journeys across London are now lengthened by almost 20 minutes by this one junction alone.

If you are a local worker or resident, or a regular through driver, we'd like to hear you views on the subject. Is the jam an unbearable noisy, polluting nuisance, an obstacle, a danger to pedestrians? Do you see frustrated motorists jumping the lights, or are you a seething cross-London traveller just trying to get across town efficiently without wasting time or fuel?
