PCSO and Rangers

Services

inholborn's approach to services is to deliver them in a way that really matters - by means of tangible benefits that make a real difference to the people of Holborn.

Rangers

Our Rangers are the Holborn Ambassadors. With their eye catching new uniforms, it is always easy to spot one if you are ever in need of some friendly help. There is not much they don’t know about the area, and are there to help you with any questions, safety concerns, or other issues you may have. They are also there as a personal way to contact inholborn management, in addition to email and telephone. They are there to help you!

Our Rangers have been newly trained and carry new handheld computers to help them get the job done. They use these devices to log, track and report on situations they encounter. This is a first for inholborn, since no other Business Improvement District has the use of such a comprehensive management system. Thanks to this new technology, a total of 900 reports were logged and dealt with in 2007/08. Most dealt with issues such as lighting, loose paving stones and street cleanliness. That’s a safer, cleaner Holborn.

Our Rangers are also one of the many outlets inholborn has put in place for crime prevention and ensuring safety. Any suspicious activity or potentially hazardous problem can – and should- be reported to a Ranger.

They are also there to help give out information and guide people around the neighbourhood. Rangers hand out an average of 1000 Holborn maps a week. Recently, in a nice piece of publicity for inholborn, Ranger Rand Faytaren was featured in the Visit London brochure, available in Eurostar terminals across Europe.

Information Kiosk

Step out of Holborn tube and our information kiosk is right in front of you. Just the right place to pick up a leaflet or two, chat with a Ranger, and help yourself to a free inholborn promotional biro.

We purposely set up the kiosk in one of London’s busiest and often confusing junctions. This helps visitors to Holborn feel positive about the area and keeps human traffic moving in an area that suffers heavily from congestion.

This service is essential as on emerging from the Underground, there is little signage and finding your way can be difficult. The kiosk is positioned so you can’t miss it, and whether you are in Holborn for business or fun, the Rangers will direct you where you need to go. And with 31,000 enquires this past quarter alone, it’s clear that Holborn needs them!

This is great for our inholborn businesses. Whether it’s clients coming to a meeting, or visitors and tourists looking for a local bar, restaurant or shop, our rangers can direct them straight to you.

Things are set to get even better soon, as we’ve applied for permission for a new kiosk to be sited on High Holborn, with illuminated direction signs at the tube station exits. Keep your eye on the website for updates.

Crime Prevention

Inholborn is committed to preventing and dealing with crime in the area. A number of measures are in place to help reduce crime and to ensure Holborn remains the attractive community it is.

We liaise closely with the police at all levels. We help businesses establish relationships with the Camden Safer Neighbourhood Team, and develop business continuity planning and counter-terrorism strategies.

A stand-out feature is our Businesswatch scheme. With this, local businesses are provided with a dedicated radio handset, allowing them to alert other businesses, and the police, of suspicious activity. By working together, we can create an environment that is unattractive to criminals; the more eyes on the street, the safer we are. So far, over 50 businesses have signed up.

Every month we organise crime prevention events. These take place in the foyers of Holborn businesses and have proved extremely popular. Rangers and crime prevention officers are on hand to offer advice on things like personal safety when leaving work, looking out for cash machine skimming, property marking, and so on.

In addition, our Rangers are there to report any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities.

We want to keep Holborn beautiful and safe, and create an environment where crime is simply not tolerated.

Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs)

On 1 August two dedicated Police Community Support Officers hit the streets of Holborn. Approachable and trained to deal with everyday issues with the public, they play a crucial role in responding to and preventing crime in the area.
PCSOs, the face of the Police Force, are there to get to know our BID businesses on a one on one basis. They represent you, and inholborn, and are part of the community.
Our PCSOs are responsible for running the Business Watch Radio Link Scheme, and with two officers dedicated to the area, they are able to respond to radio calls swiftly and efficiently.
The PCSOs provide support to our Rangers, using the PDA systems to enter reports and responding to reported incidents. They are the number one people to talk to regarding any suspicious or anti-social activities seen.
Our PCSOs are part of the team dedicated to keeping Holborn beautiful, working closely with our Rangers, the Police, and the inholborn staff. Feel free to introduce yourself, get to know them, and work with them to ensure Holborn stays just how we love it.

Police Overtime

Inholborn has made an agreement with the Metropolitan Police for the use of targeted police overtime in Holborn. This results in the implementation of a variety of anti-crime initiatives.

You can arrange to have a Police Foyer Event, and have police set up shop in your foyer for a day, and provide your business with precisely targeted crime prevention advice for your staff and building management.

Metropolitan Police and inholborn have undertaken anti-social cycling campaigns at main junctions in the Holborn area to issue warnings and fines to the minority of cyclists acting irresponsibly. We have also funded police patrols for extra police on-street presence, and anti-bag –theft campaigns.

Future projects include funding Police officers to patrol the BID area at night as the eyes and ears of inholborn, to give us insight into what issues these night venues face.

Police overtime means safer streets for Holborn.
