As Supermarkets Go Green, So Can Holborn!
There are many ways to make your business a more environmentally-friendly one.
On October 25th 2008, Juliette Jowit wrote a story for The Guardian exploring how supermarkets are reacting to rising energy prices and green campaigns by adopting environmentally-friendly business practices. These practices include reducing carbon emissions as well reducing energy waste, water waste and food waste. Initiatives by these companies include striving for carbon neutrality, reducing the road miles travelled by stock and significantly decreasing the amount of waste sent to landfill.
While greening strategies vary from company to company, one thing they all have in common is making a concentrated effort to considerably reduce the amount of carrier bags used. According to this article, Tesco plans to reduce the number of carrier bags used by 50% by the end of February 2009. Marks and Spencer, another example, plan to reduce the use of bags by 33% by 2010.
Reducing the amount of carrier bags used by businesses and consumers is something that’s easy to do, and something that will reduce costs and have a real impact on the environment.
