Friday 9 January:

inHolborn Walk- Homes of Famous People:
This tour visits some of the houses formerly occupied by famous people, including the first British Prime Minister to be assassinated, and important dwellings from the history of literature and art.
 

Wednesday 14 and Friday 16 January:


inHolborn Walk- Pioneers of Policing Bow Street Runners:
                                                                    (Part I) (new for 2009)                                                                                                                                                             Today’s walk visits locations near Holborn connected with the history of this early police force.
 

Wednesday 21 and Friday 23 January:
 

inHolborn Walk- On the Trail of the Monster - Bow Street Runners:                                                 (Part II) (new for 2009)
Visiting sites in Holborn where the eighteenth century ripper, the ‘London Monster’, lurked and we hear about the Bow Street Runners attempts to catch him.
 

Wednesday 28 and Friday 30 January:


inHolborn Walk- Going Underground:                                                                                                                           (new for 2009)
Below Holborn there is a mile of tunnels unconnected to London Underground. This tour explores their purpose, history, and the various entrances that have until now been largely unknown. Please note that this walk will be on the surface only and will not be going down any of the tunnels.
 

 

Wednesday 4 February:


inHolborn Walk- Holborn’s Culture, Media and Sport:
A mix of surprises – including major sites from the history of football, music and cinema.
 

 

Friday 6 February:


inHolborn Walk- Zeppelin Attack!
Visit several places in Holborn which were bombed in the First World War. See shrapnel damaged walls and a pub clock that stopped at 10.40 – the time the building was hit.
 

 

Wednesday 11 February:


inHolborn Walk- Holborn at War:

This walk visits sites in Holborn connected with the Battle of Britain.

 

Friday 13 February:

inHolborn Walk- The Blitz:                                                                                                                                             Holborn was badly damaged during the Blitz. Today’s walk visits several locations that were bombed and explains how the Holborn we know today was shaped by these terrible events.
 

 

Wednesday 18 and Friday 20 February:


inHolboron Walk: Doodlebug!                                                                                                                                   (new for 2009)
In 1944 Hitler unleashed his V1 ‘Doodlebug’ flying bomb and V2 rocket on Britain. This walk visits four places in the Holborn area hit by these weapons.

 


Wednesday 25 and Friday 27 February:


inHolborn Walk- Knights Templar:
This ancient order set up its first English base in Holborn before moving to the New Temple Church (as featured in The Da Vinci Code). We visit both sites on this tour.

 


Wednesday 4 and Friday 6 March:


inHolbown Walk- Who ate all the pies?                                                                                                                 (new for 2009)
Today we hear about the story of the eighteenth century serial killer Sweeney Todd. This walk visits the site of his barber shop and the place where his victims were made into meat pies!

 


Wednesday 11 and Friday 13 March:

inHolborn Walk- Horrible Holborn:
The pleasantness of present-day Holborn hides a dark and sinister past. This tour uncovers it.

 


Wednesday 18 March:

inHolborn Walk- Stoned!                                                                                                                                              (Part I)
This tour looks at some of the sculptures and statutes north of High Holborn.

 


Friday 20 March:

 inHolborn Walk- Stoned!                                                                                                                                             (Part II)
Our second ‘Stoned!’ tour looks at some of the sculptures and statutes south of High Holborn.

 


Wednesday 25 March:

 inHolborn Walk- The Great Plague:
Visit the area where the Great Plague of 1665 started, and hear about these terrible times.
