Red Lion Square Bike Race

Pedalling towards a greener Mishcon de Reya

Mishcon de Reya has taken an innovative step towards increasing its environmental credentials, as well as staff fitness levels by purchasing ten company bicycles.

The Firm hopes that the fold-up Brompton bikes, available to all Mishcon employees, will reduce the number of short car journeys made by staff within the city.

Mishcon de Reya launched the bicycles with a race around Red Lion Square outside Mishcon’s Holborn based office on the 20th May. The race, which required competitors to unfold the bikes, complete two laps of the square and refold the bikes, was met with mixed success, much to the delight of the assembled cycling enthusiasts lining the course.

The fleet of bikes is the brainchild of partner Larry Nathan, who came up with the idea while fuming in the back of a stationary cab on his way to a client meeting. Commenting on the new company transport, Larry said: “As with most companies, and especially law firms, there are many essential day-to-day errands that involve short journeys around London.

We all have a sense of environmental responsibility and felt that it was unnecessary, and often impractical, to rely on cars for these journeys. The new bikes are a far more efficient and healthy way to get around and we are confident that they will be well-utilised resources.”
